Physalis Alkekengi – ‘Chinese Lantern’
A fantastic choice to add a winter and fall colour pop to your patio or garden. The blooms will create stunning bright orange fruits that will continue through winter. These berries are edible when ripe and have a surprisingly tart flavour, but word of caution, all other parts, including the unripe berries, are toxic if ingested. This perennial is a vigorous spreader once established and frost hardy.
Plant Care
Light: These prefer full sun but will tolerate shade.
Watering: These plants prefer to be moist when younger, but become more drought-tolerant as they mature. Water deeply rather than little and often.
Temperature: This is a fully hardy plant and will tolerate down to -12c
Potting: A well-draining mix is ideal.
Hot tips: Thises are vigours spreaders similar to mint, so if you don’t want your garden overrun by these, then plant into containers to control their spread
